On Thursday April 28th, members of CED Co-op and employees at Salus Marine Wear gathered to celebrate the official opening of their jointly owned solar system.

The 160kW solar system on the roof of 660 Superior Drive is already generating electricity for the Ontario Energy Grid, and profits for CED Co-op investors.

The partnership all started during a friendly poker game when Steve Wagner, owner of Salus Marine Wear, met Jerry Enns from CED Co-op and learned about the opportunity the co-op was offering to become a partner in a solar project and environmental leader in the local business community.

“What started as cleaning up at the poker table ended up cleaning up the environment.” joked Steve during Thursday’s ribbon cutting. “What is typically a roof like any other is now something we can look up at and be proud of.”
