Many thanks to the members and their friends who came to MCC Ontario last night and made our 2017 Annual General Meeting a resounding success! Although the weather was less than cooperative, we took advantage of the sun when we could, and made the most of our afternoon of celebration. Highlights included:
Electric Vehicle Test Drives
Plug’n Drive brought a BMW i3, Chevrolet Bolt, and Chevrolet Volt for our members to take out. Many members took advantage of the opportunity to learn more about how electric vehicles can save money, go the distance, and reduce emissions. What could be better than knowing your car is powered by the sun? With an electric vehicle and solar panels, it could be!
Roof Top Tours
Between bouts of rain members ventured up to the MCC Ontario roof to take in the unique, raised solar system. We built a “roof on a roof” meaning the entire footprint is used for solar panels. This protects the roof, increases production, and looks pretty darn cool. This truly is a gem in our portfolio. If you haven’t stopped by 50 Kent Avenue to see it you should make a trip. Ryan Parton, Service and Support Manager at Vigor Clean Tech lead the tours and explained the technical aspects of how we turn sunlight into electricity, then into a return on investment for our members.
Barbecue
Sausages and snacks were served under our tent, giving members an opportunity to reconnect with old friends, meet new ones, and experience the sense of community that comes from belonging to a co-operative. Fellowship events like this are one of the unique aspects about investing with CED Co-op. It isn’t just about the dollars and cents.
Business Meeting
After all that excitement we wrapped up the evening with our business meeting. Al Doerksen, Board Chair and Brian Unrau, Board President, presented on the state of the co-op including lending and project share purchases, project milestones and production, transitioning Joint Ventures to Limited Partnerships, and our increased communication. Ron Kielstra from Grant Thornton LLP presented the audited financial statements. Dale Brubacher-Cressman lead the re-election of Directors and confirmed their compensation.
Following the business meeting we had an overview of our new online MemberZone, tour of 2016 projects, and introduction of a new investment opportunity being worked on for fall 2017.
