Saturday’s Green Energy Doors Open Solar System Opening at MCC Ontario marked another successful ribbon-cutting event for CED Co-op. Thank you to all the members, investors, community partners, and guests who joined us to celebrate clean, green energy, and see the impressive new solar system on the roof of 50 Kent.

The Day’s Events

We had about 150 people join us as for both the official ribbon-cutting, as well as countless roof-top tours. It was an honour to have Kitchener Centre MP Daiene Vernile, Regional Chair Ken Seiling, Regional Councillor Elizabeth Clarke, Regional Councillor Karen Redman, and Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic offer words of welcome, and help us cut the ribbon to officially open the system. Everyone was impressed with the size of the project – who knew you could walk underneath solar panels! Special thanks to Ryan and Wayne from Vigor Clean Tech for giving the tours and explaining how the system works.

Snacks from Wildfire Cuisine kept everyone well fed as they connected with friends while learning about solar energy from Vigor Clean Tech and the unique environmental building features designed by SRM Architects. Did you know that 50 Kent was designed to use natural light, has a rainwater collection system, and installed variable speed HVAC in addition to their new solar system?

When all was said and done, it was a wonderful day to celebrate solar. If you didn’t get a chance to join us, be sure to check out the photos below. Stay tuned for our next event and your opportunity to see a solar system owned by a community partner and CED Co-op members.

Below are photos from the event, as well as our short video about the MCC Ontario solar system.
